Scott Kuhn is Used Car Salesman CROOK, Not worthy
I hunted with Scott Kuhn at Deer Meadows Outfitters. We waited a season to get on the 'first hunt' of the year. When we arrived we were disheartened to find out we were the 'second hunt' of the year. There were 14 hunters in camp, we were told there'd be no more than 9. Of the 14, 4 harvested deer. One was trophy quality, another was mature but not trophy quality, the other two were definite cull bucks. The accommodations were cramped. The food was okay. The one guy who did harvest a nice buck was an industry personality. Even our guide acknowledged that there's no way he'd spend his hard earned there. I've hunted all over North American, this was by far my worst hunt ever.

Deer Meadows runs a quality operation and is known for the quality of their deer and their hospitality. We have numerous repeat and happy hunters to back our operation. Reviewer Comments: From the start of the trip most of what I was told was a lie before I got there. Scott didn't book only 9 hunts per week like he stated to me on the phone, but instead our camp was packed with 12 hunters. There were 6 adults in our one small room sharing 3 bunk beds and the accommodations were not up to what I call very comfortable standards (most people took cold showers, no phones, old mattresses with no padding). Scott spoke about harvesting only 4 and a half year old bucks, and maybe 3 and a half if need be, but all their deer were mature. This was one of the main reasons I chose to hunt there. Not only did we hardly see any shootable animals, what was killed did not meet those age classes for the most part. The guides he hires are mainly young family members or close friends who only really have a limited knowledge of the land, and know very little about the animals. They are not knowledgeable about scoring an animal, nor or they familiar with how to determine age class. They are not professional trophy guides in my opinion. They cross property lines and some guides try to pressure you into animals you don't want to take. Scott also advertises he has 60,000 acres on which to hunt (another reason I chose him). This meant we would be covering new territory all the time since the first weeks hunters covered a lot as well (he spoke to me about that aspect of the hunt numerous times). We found out day after day we were hunting the same territory just hunted the day before by other hunters even though Scott told us we were hunting virgin territory that morning. His guides even told us they notified him people had hunted the ground the day before, however he lied to us and told us we were hunting new ground for the first time that year. I can't tell you how unhappy we were finding boot tracks and truck tracks every where we went. Only a select couple of repeat customers got to hunt the new ground we found out. On the last day of the hunt my brother still had not tagged a deer along with another hunter in our room. Although Scott had 6 guides in camp which would have allowed for a one on one hunt for everyone who had not tagged out, he chose to stick my brother and this hunter together for the day with his 17 yr old son. He chose then to send his 14 yr old son out to hunt with one of his guides so that he could get a deer for himself. I can't tell you how upset that made us since time was going fast and he was more worried about his own kids getting deer rather than his paying customers being successful. His 17 yr old son also yelled at my brother and tried to force him to shoot a four inch spike whitetail since it was the last day and they wanted there success rate numbers to be high. My brother refused to shoot the deer and then had to listen to his kid tell him that he should be thankful for this deer since not many places let you shoot spikes on the last day. His son then took them to trespass onto property that was not theirs and got the truck stuck for the entire day in a sand dune. He then proceeded to march them all over the place looking at areas that had been hunted all week. Needless to say there were some extremely unhappy people at camp that night. I also learned that Scott talks a good game about the huge deer he takes, but if you look very closely at the pictures on his website you will see most of the deer are average at best. They take pictures very close to you and the animal so that they look huge. Unfortunately I fell for his trick and thought that the animals online were all big trophies. You will also learn he really takes care of his repeat customers and puts them with the best guides in the best places, meanwhile any new customers get stuck with inexperienced guides hunting old ground day after day. It's very obvious when you are in camp who is getting the preferential treatment .

Arizona has lots of trophy big game but is probably best known for its trophy elk and mule deer. This partially due to the limited number of tags available.
