Outfitter Review

The Taylors were great hosts. Everything at the plantation was great from the lodging, food, hunting stands, planted patches and all of the people we dealt with while there. We will definitely return to Pa-Ko Plantation.

True southern hunting

This past November I bow hunted with J-Paul at Pa-ko Plantation and had a wonderful experience. I do not rifle hunt and usually only go to bow only outfitters and was really concerned about hunting with an outfitter that offers gun hunting because of the extra pressure the deer receive. I was honestly told of what to expect on my hunt and was very suprised to see the amount of deer I seen. I could have shot 3 eight points and let a nine point walk that I should not have ,he was close to about 125 inches. I also let a very mature seven point walk all in one afternoon. I harvested a doe for meat and ended up not harvesting a buck but it was due to choice not that J-Paul and his staff did not work his tail off trying to put me on deer. I am going up turkey hunting this spring and and will be going back bowhunting with J-Paul this fall. If you are looking for a good place to do some true southern style hunting with strong family tradition, this is the place to go. I have hunted with quite a few outfitters and have had good experiences with a few but I have had more bad experiences with most. I can say that Pa-ko is at the top of my list!

Best Hunt Ever

The accommodations and staff are great and the bar is open. There is plenty of game. This was my second trip to Pa-Ko Plantation. Last year I scored a wide 8 point. This year 2 bucks, 10 point, and a heavy 8 point. It doesn't get any better than this. Even my taxidermist was impressed. Pictures here: http://rvtaxidermy.wordpress.com/

Holiday Hunt

This is our fourth year at Pa-Ko during the pre-rut. The weather was a bit warm, so the deer were not moving as much as we would have liked, but that is the nature of hunting eh? Jay and Rita take very good care of you. The food is excellent and the guides know where you need to go. Jay makes certain that you are hunting in stands that are right for the wind. I saw deer on every sit and had the opportunity for a shot on the first night(unfortunately I am a bit slow) at a nice buck. One of the other members of our party got a shot at a very large buck on the second night we were hunting but did not hit the animal well. We had a great time, the food was excellent and the hospitality even better. Great hunt!

a really good experience

The owner was friendly, direct, knowledgeable, available, and was firmly in control of the operation. He directed the guides. He knows the land extremely well (since childhood). He was 6 for 6 with wind/stand placement and given the light winds that was impressive. Great buck doe ratio. Saw a min of 3 deer each hunt with a max of 17 at one time (11 does or small bucks, 2 smaller 6ish, 1 nice 8, and a monster.) Low pressure and he tries to allow alot of time between sits on each stand. Food and lodging were good. I would have no reservations in bringing an important client or employee. Oh yea, I killed a nice 10 point. I clearly see why they have so much repeat business. It was a six hour drive but well worth it.

White Tail Bow Hunt

I hunted Pa Ko Plantation twice in the last month. What follows is a fair and balanced review: I'll answer the most important question first- They have lots of deer and plenty of bucks. They are not highly pressured nor are they educated. In both trips I saw more scrapes than any time in my life ( in some pockets they were every 10 feet ). I also had an opportunity to take the maximum 1 buck, 2 doe limits with a bow. My failure to do that on the first hunt was my own fault ( buck fever! ). Jay Paul, the owner/guide knows his property and where the deer are. He is very accommodating and does want you to succeed. I would go there again and I would recommend it to others. In an effort to be balanced I'll say that while Pa-KO has lots of opportunities for bow hunters it's clearly more focused on rifle hunters. They have green fields galore with shooting houses. Their deer hit the green fields at night and there is limited opportunity for a bow hunter on a green field. This does not need to be the case, they could make it happen if they wanted to. I will recognize that setting up bow hunters takes more effort than someone taking 100 รท yard shots due to the need to extra measures needed to control wind/scent. This is my chief complaint. Because Jay Paul knows his property so well he seemed to be winging it when it came time for hunt. Weatherchannel.com has a 10 day forecast that shows you what the winds will be well in advance. There is no excuse for not planning. In my opinion this is what you should expect from a guide. We cant scout their property and know best entrances and stand locations for them. We need a well thought out plan. I didn't see that. While I did ultimately have success I needlessly sat in stands in wrong winds and in areas that had cold sign on a few hunts. This could have been prevented with forethought and pre-scouting. I think with a a little more planning for bow hunters this could be a 10 star place. To repeat though, I will go back but I will be more insistent on my locations now that I know more about the property. The food was impeccable if you like country cooking and the lodging is comfortable with entertainment options though I did not maximize it due to exhaustion from hunting.

awesome hunting

I have been going to PA-Ko for many years. Awesome is an understatement. Lodge is the best better than being at home. Food is better than a restaurant. The owners and staff are 1st class. Honest and hard working people. Will try there best to get you a buck. The deer are there in high numbers and many great bucks. This is a hunters dream come true. I have taken very nice bucks there but sorry no pictures on this computer to show.

Deer Hunt

This was my third trip to Pa-Ko. Last year there were 8 in our party. 5 out of 8 saw shooter bucks during our three day stay. We saw bob cats, hogs, and plenty of deer to make anyone happy. The food and hospitality is excellent as are the guides. Jay and Rita are outstanding hosts. A great value.

Pa-Ko Plantation

This was my 3rd trip to Pa-Ko. J. Paul and Rita run a first class operation. The staff know where the deer are and continuously follow their movements. I have always seen many quality animals. They don't always come within bow range but such is hunting. There are many ladder stands throughout the property as well as hunting houses that will accommodate the needs of most any hunter. Or, if you prefer, they can set you up somewhere in your climber. The food and accommodations are great. All this in a relaxing southern plantation atmosphere.

New Mexico Hunting Information

New Mexico is one of the top destinations for trophy Elk and Antelope hunting. Draw odds can be tough depending on the unit but landowner tags are also available for those who don't draw. Mule Deer are plentiful but generally of average size. Only a couple of units and reservations consistently produce big muleys.

British Columbia Hunting Information

British Columbia is an excellent hunting destination that offers a wide variety of game species. Vast wilderness areas and pristine coastlines provide world class adventure hunting for those seeking that trip of a lifetime. BC is arguably best known for big coastal black bears, Canada moose, grizzly bear, mountain lion, Dall sheep and Stone sheep. Hunters can book a hunt with an outfitter and avoid the license drawing process common in most U.S. states.
