bear hunt

Was part of a group of 20 plus hunter plus 2nd week of 2011 season. Neither myself or at least 16 others did not see a bear the whole week. He made no attempt to move anyone. Four bears were taken the entire week. His news letter is little more than sales hype. I will not return to him, and have booked with another outfitter

Not Bad

Went to Foggy last Week on the 11th. Camp was good, very Friendly. our week got cut short due to Work. We had 5 Hunters with us, 2 Saw bear, 1 missed and 1 Killed. not bad for only 2.5 days of Hunting. weather was Warm and a sky full of moon did not help. Wayne was a good guy, Bob "Our Guide" was a little to quite for me. Left me a note on my treestand. We did see our guide often.

Species Hunted: Black bear

Game Quality: Good

Accommodation Quality: excellent

Camp Condition: N/A

Food Quality: N/A

Guide Experience: Good

Other Personal Experience: N/A

Overall Impression: Fair

Recommend: Yes, but barely.

Reviewer Comments: Wayne was very frienly and put my wife and I in a huge log house on a lake. I did not see my guide but twice but he did leave notes at my treestand to let me know if the bait was hit. I saw one decent bear on my last day of the hunt but got winded before I could get a shot off. My only complaint was the hour+ long drive to my stand in my own vehicle. If I draw a moose tag I will be back to see Wayne, as far as Bear I think Spring bear in Canada is more productive.

Species Hunted: Black Bear

Overall Impression: Waste of time & money

Recommend: Definitely not

Reviewer Comments: This hunt was several years ago but I just found this site. Met with Wayne at his house. He told me I would be assigned 1 stand and not to "come whining if you don't see any bear. You're not getting another stand". The "guide" led me to my stand (in my own vehicle)and I never saw him again for the rest of the hunt. I was on my own after that. I was told that if I shot a bear, I was to load it in my vehicle and bring it back. He said don't come back wanting me to track it down and load it up for you. I went back to his house after the first nights hunt to check in so he wouldn't think I was lost in the wilderness. He told me not to be coming to his house. I saw 1 bear that weighed about 90 lbs and didn't shoot it. Wayne made some remark about me wasting his time if I wasn't going to shoot a bear.

Reviewer Comments: I went to Pittston Farm to bear hunt with Foggy Mountain Guide service. It was the most enjoyable hunt I have ever been on. Wayne and his guides went out of their way and did everything they could to put everyone on bears. out of 17 hunters in camp 11 bears were taken in the 1st hunting week in Sept. 2004. I got a nice bear on wednesday. I'm putting in for a moose permit and when I get it I'm going with wayne and his folks, and I'll be back bear hunting with wayne again.

Species Hunted: Black Bear

Game Quality: Poor

Accommodation Quality: Good

Camp Condition: Poor

Food Quality: n/a

Guide Experience: Poor

Other Personal Experience: Poor

Overall Impression: I won't be going back

Recommend: no

Reviewer Comments: STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY!! The accomedations were ok because my wife went as a non-hunter(extra$225) so we got a cabin on a lake. This is the most unfriendly person I've ever hunted around. Once he gets your money, he's done with you. 18 hunters got 2 bears. We were told not to come to him wanting to change stands if we hadn't seen anything in a few days. He discouraged hunters from hanging around his shop before or after the hunt each day. We were shown our stands once and then they didn't want any more contact with us. He's one of the highest in Maine ($995/week) but he seems to be running on his past reputation from years ago. I don't expect anyone to guarantee an animal but I do expect them to do their best to make the hunt enjoyable...game or no game!

Utah Hunting Information

Utah has recently been outstanding for trophy elk, but the best tags take many years to draw. Utah does have conservation tags available for purchase that allow hunters to bypass the drawing. Given the high demand for these premium tags prices can be high. In the past Utah has been a top trophy mule deer state but recently only a handful of units consistently produce B&C caliber deer.

In fact, 7 of the 10 largest bighorn sheep in Boone and Crockett record book are from Alberta. In addition to big game, Alberta offers some top notch bird hunting. Serious waterfowlers know about the large flocks of ducks and geese that call Alberta home or migrate through.
