Unbelievable amount of elk
Great hunt. Owners and guides are top notch. Only reason I didn't give the hunt 5 stars is because we unfortunately got stuck in the same lodge as the group of alcoholics that were there at the same time as us. We couldn't fill our tags And get out of there fast enough.

Reviewer Comments: Dick and Cheryl Dodds run a top notch elk hunt in North Colorado. All details were considered, hundreds of elk seen, and the food was good. This is not a rich mans hunt with a fancy lodge, just a high quality, helpfull outfit that was a huge improvement over my 2006 hunt in NW Colorado (See "Higher Ground" review this site)Elkhorn seperates the hunters, and you can expect to see dozens if not hundreds of elk and deer a day. If you have any skill with a rifle, you will do well here. Very recommended.

Reviewer Comments: Son and I went on a mid December cow elk hunt and it was fantastic and exceeded all expectations. Everything was perfect and we saw a wide variety of game and numerous elk. Guide (John) is very competent. Very customer oriented. All buildings and accomodations are comfortable.

Reviewer Comments: Dick's operation is one of the most hunter friendly, and is the best I have been able to attend. The knowledge of his guides, the quantity of game, the quality of the camp personnel were all terrific.

Reviewer Comments: My Guide Jim? knew his stuff. Very expereienced guide and joy to hunt with. My other guide was a nice kid but not really woods-smart. I think Dick has a great operation and would suggest them if you are looking for a good, quanity hunt where you will see a lot of elk.

Reviewer Comments: First class hunt. There were 9 hunters in camp and all of us filled our tags. Pronghorn were so numerous that we could have filled our tags by noon on first day. Excellent opportunities for 14"+ bucks.

Species Hunted: Antelope
Game Quality: Poor 10" or less
Accommodation Quality: like 6 guys in a fishhouse
Camp Condition: poor - transfer case needed re
Food Quality: poor
Guide Experience: poor, at field judging
Other Personal Experience: poor
Overall Impression: poor
Recommend: NO WAY!
Reviewer Comments: I saw a total of 3 antelope bucks and shot one that the guide told me it was a typical 13" buck, and it turned out to be a non-typical 10". The guide left a full bladder and rectum in the animal after field dressing it. When I went to butcher it, the meat was contaminated with urine, and fecal matter. The sleeping quarters was like having to sleep in a small fish house with 6 guys. Too cozy for me! When I booked the hunt I was told by a very reputable consulting firm that the average hunter sees up to 50 bucks a day! Not based on my experience. Large amounts of antelope in NW Colorado do not exist there!

Oregon Hunting Information
Oregon is not known to be a trophy big game producing state. That said they do have good quantities of animals such as Elk.
New Mexico Hunting Information
New Mexico is one of the top destinations for trophy Elk and Antelope hunting. Draw odds can be tough depending on the unit but landowner tags are also available for those who don't draw. Mule Deer are plentiful but generally of average size. Only a couple of units and reservations consistently produce big muleys.
Alberta Hunting Information
Alberta is a large, diverse province with rolling prairies, farmland, river bottoms, Boreal forests, and large expanses of the northern Rocky Mountains. Many species of big game, waterfowl, upland game and predators inhabit Alberta. Long known for monster whitetails, Alberta also is home to big mule deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, black bear, cougar, Canada moose, and bighorn sheep. In fact, 7 of the 10 largest bighorn sheep in Boone and Crockett record book are from Alberta. In addition to big game, Alberta offers some top notch bird hunting. Serious waterfowlers know about the large flocks of ducks and geese that call Alberta home or migrate through.
