Sonnnys is a joke!!!
It all started with more hunters than Sonny told us he received tags for each season. His camps are completely over hunted. Within 24 hours of arriving at camp, our cabin caught fire and all our clothing and gear was completely saturated with heavy smoke. Our guide called Sonny and told him what happened. Sonny said to deal with it. He actually said “Shit happens” We explained to him that we felt that the hunt and food/accommodations were completely misrepresented and we wanted a refund. He said it wasn’t going to happen! Now there are three guys all staying in a cabin that is 12x16. We had Campbells Cream of Mushroom Soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner.No privacy at all and our guide slept 3 feet away from my head. We hunted the same clearcut and meadow everyday. 3 hours in morning and 3 hours in evening. We talked with our guide and let him know that we were hard core elk hunters and wanted to stay out all day and go after some animals. He wasn’t interested. He wasn’t blatantly rude, but you could tell he had to try and be nice. My hunting partner and I decided to give it 3 days and if nothing changed we were going to ask to be taken out of camp. That’s what happened, we left early. Spent $6500 not counting tags or fuel etc to go on this hunt. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! Please contact me if you have more questions. #503-267-4901 w_vicars@msn.com
Outfitter Response: this hunter lied as they were the ones that started the cabin on fire. They were offered many options and turned them all down he also sent me a letter slandering me and if this article is not removed both you and wayne vickers will be going to court for harassment. Another hunter from our area had a hunter do the same thing and when the court was done the judge offered over two million in favour of the out fitter. i suggest that you contact me by phone before this goes any further. Outfitter Review
I made a previous review on our trip to Sonny's guiding service last year that wasn't quite up to par. That being said, the accommodations were excellent. The cabins you will stay in are extremely comfortable and way better than we expected. The outfitter took the time to set up good quality dinners for us every night, the only problem was that the guide wasn't willing to cook them. All of the issues we had during the trip were caused from the guide, not the outfitter. That being said, Sonny has done everything to make it right to us and we will be returning next year for a better experience!

My experience at Sonny
My dad and I went to a guided Moose hunting trip that we bought at the Eugene, OR sportsman show. The hunt took place in Houston, BC at Sonny's Guiding Service. The results of this trip was far from satisfactory. First of all, our guide was the laziest hunter that we have ever been around. He didn't want to walk at all, if the moose didn't come to a call, we weren't going to have a chance that day. We would wake up around 4:00 am and he'd make us breakfast, we'd "hunt" until about 9:00 am and then he'd pull over to the side of the road and sleep until 5:00 pm. This made the days extremely long and boring. He wouldn't want to make dinner because he was too tired from hunting all day, even though most of his day was spent sleeping. He had us doing the dishes and spitting wood for his camp. At this part it felt like we spent all of this time, effort and money to drive 20+ hours to do someone's chores. If I had to compare this hunt to something, it would be prison. Except prison would feed you better. Whatever you do, don't waste your money and time on this hunt. It has excellent populations of pheasant and quail due to the vast expanse of suitable prairie and grassland type habitat.
