Beautiful location hunt not as advertised
The remote location was beautiful. The only human sounds were 5 or 6 trains a day and an occasional airplane. We had 2 hunters that wanted to try the spot and stalk hunt and 2 bow hunters that wanted a guided bait hunt. The website advertises 2 prebaited sites per hunter. After taking our money the guide told us he had only 1 bait site. One of the bow hunters brought a muzzleloader and was forced into the spot and stalk hunt. The “bait” was a mix of sunflower seed, corn and oats. We saw no sign of bears eating this “bait”. We were told that the guide would be with the spot and stalk hunters from 8 to 2 and take the bait hunters out until dark. Our bait hunter was shown his site and did not see the guide again until we left. He did not see a bear and there was no sign of the “bait” being hit. The spot and stalk hunters had to carry gear over a rugged trail to the next lake. A boat was provided for a hour ride. The guide met us most of the way up. We carried gear over a shot trail to another boat for a short ride to a road. 45 minute walk up the road to a stand. It had a good view of an area with blueberries and the guide put out some “bait”. 2 of us did not see any bears. The other hunter had a glimpse of a bear spotting him on the first day. He saw a big bear on the last day when he was riding with the guide in his van. The guide wouldn’t let him try to get a shot because he said the muzzle loader wouldn’t kill it. He drove on and chased the bear off the road then stopped upwind to wait for the bear with the same muzzle loader. Most of our days were from 9 am to 9 pm.
