Fish in a Barrel

Let me preface this review by stating our flight was 8 hours late and then my bow did not arrive. I purchased this hunt at a QDMA banquet and was under the impression I was chasing free range stag as the general manager from Poronui was at the banquet. I borrowed the guides rifle due to the fact my bow did not make the trip. So, when we pulled up to a gate the first morning and I told the guide I was on the free range hunt and his reply was, "We don't have any free range stag here", I was not thrilled. An hour later, I shot a stag at 60 yards. The entire time we were there getting the deer out, a 400 inch red stag lie at 80 yards watching us. The next day my bow arrived and I elected to chase free range Sika. I soon found out that my guide had never bow hunted a day in his life and they knew I was coming to archery hunt. It was exciting chasing them and the numbers and quality were good. This is a high end lodge but not my cup of tea.

Utah Hunting Information

Utah has recently been outstanding for trophy elk, but the best tags take many years to draw. Utah does have conservation tags available for purchase that allow hunters to bypass the drawing. Given the high demand for these premium tags prices can be high. In the past Utah has been a top trophy mule deer state but recently only a handful of units consistently produce B&C caliber deer.

Arizona Hunting Information

Arizona has lots of trophy big game but is probably best known for its trophy elk and mule deer. This partially due to the limited number of tags available.

Iowa Hunting Information

Iowa is one of the best Midwestern states for monster whitetail bucks. Non-residents must apply for a tag in their annual drawing. Archery tags are the most sought after and depending on what units you apply for generally take 2-4 years to draw.
