Delivers The Goods

Booked a spring hunt for black bear. Have been hunting three other times for black bear and this is by far the best hunt I have been on for black bear. I actually killed about a 3.5 year old black bear the year before but I wanted to take my daughter on a bear hunt and see if I could get a really big bear. She is 17 and has been on two other bear hunts with me. She hasn't been able to harvest a black bear and really didn't have much of a chance on the other hunts. I informed Mark, the outfitter, my top priority was for my daughter to get a bear. He promised she would have the opportunity and he kept his word. She saw about 5 bear a day. I saw a total of 8 bear and one of them was 400 to 500 lbs. I just wasn't able to get a shot off before he went back into the woods. Could have shot a sow about 300 lbs on the last day but she had two tiny cubs and I didn't want to make the cubs orphans. I actaully shot about a 250 lbs bear but we couldn't find him after tracking him for about 100 yards. Mark is an excellant tracker. But unfortunately the bear stopped bleeding and/or leaving a blood trail and we didn't find him. My daughter got a 240 lb chocolate colored bear with a beautiful coat. It will make a great rug. She got it the last day of the hunt during the last 10 minutes of the hunt. Mark guided her each day and was a great help. His father Ron works with him during the spring hunts and guides. His mother cooks for the hunting group. They are all nice, top quailty and provide a great atmosphere during the hunts. There were six of us in the camp and everyone saw a lot of bear. We each shot a bear. Unfortunately, two of us didn't find the bears we shot, but that is hunting. It is very thick woods but beautiful. The accomadations are top rate, the food is good and Mark makes sure all the hunters are informed about what to expect and delievers on what he says. I would highly recommend this group for a spring bear hunt. Have heard they deliver a great white tail deer hunt as well. Plan on giving them a try. If anyone would like to call me to insure I am not a guide or a friend just trying to help out an outfitter then feel free to call me at 334-285-4488. I live in Millbrook, AL. There wasn't a space to check black bear and that is why I checked whitetail deer. I could not submit the report unless I checked a species.

Reviewer Comments: This place is very well run and very professional. Mark and his dad made sure they were always putting us on deer. I think I gained 10 pounds with all of the great food I ate also. They also have a brand new lodge that is very nice. I will be going back as soon as I can.

Iowa Hunting Information

Iowa is one of the best Midwestern states for monster whitetail bucks. Non-residents must apply for a tag in their annual drawing. Archery tags are the most sought after and depending on what units you apply for generally take 2-4 years to draw.

Alberta Hunting Information

Alberta is a large, diverse province with rolling prairies, farmland, river bottoms, Boreal forests, and large expanses of the northern Rocky Mountains. Many species of big game, waterfowl, upland game and predators inhabit Alberta. Long known for monster whitetails, Alberta also is home to big mule deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, black bear, cougar, Canada moose, and bighorn sheep. In fact, 7 of the 10 largest bighorn sheep in Boone and Crockett record book are from Alberta. In addition to big game, Alberta offers some top notch bird hunting. Serious waterfowlers know about the large flocks of ducks and geese that call Alberta home or migrate through.

New Mexico Hunting Information

New Mexico is one of the top destinations for trophy Elk and Antelope hunting. Draw odds can be tough depending on the unit but landowner tags are also available for those who don't draw. Mule Deer are plentiful but generally of average size. Only a couple of units and reservations consistently produce big muleys.
